The Gun Show aims to examine the issue of gun violence through an artistic lens in ways that are both creative and thought-provoking.

      ...what, other than guns, can empower & protect you?

 

The Project

The Gun Show will be exhibited in a public park on the 800 block of Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA, May 4 - 5, 2013. We are seeking artists to submit work in a digital format.  All chosen works will be projected onto the facade  of a building, available for all to see.

Artist Eligibility:  Artists must 17 or older to participate.



Art Limitations: Works can be still images (in JPEG format) or short films (in MOV format) with a maximum of 3 minutes.



Application Procedure: Any media is appropriate, as long as it can be presented as a digital image or short film (ex, paintings could be photographed and manipulated on the computer into a digital image or film). Entries must be all original work.

Applications should include:
          • Short artist bio

          • A response (in 500 words or less) to the phrase: A free people ought to be armed with _____.

          • JPEG or MOV file of the work. If file is too large to send as an attachment, please include a link.

Selection Criteria
The following selection criteria will be used during the artwork review:
          • Artwork speaks clearly to the 779 Art Collective: The Gun Show project mission
          • Artistic excellence and originality is showcased
          • Artwork fits the time constraints

Selection Process

Works will be selected by members of the collective.  All artists selected will receive $100.00 honoraria.

Acceptance Information
Artists whose work is selected will be notified on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.  Acceptance will be made via e-mail.

Exhibition
The exhibition will occur on the evenings of Saturday and Sunday, May 4th and 5th.  All participating artists are invited to attend the exhibition and interact with exhibition attendees and passers-by.
